Guest lecture: ‘The Gender of Psychology'
Professor Tamara Shefer

Tamara Shefer is Director of the Women's and Gender Studies Programme and is a professor of Psychology at the University of Western Cape, South Africa. She has published widely in the areas of sexuality, HIV/AIDS, gender and psychology. In this lecture Professor Shefer attempts to destabilise the accepted and normative authority of psychology as a discipline and practice over gender. Moving from a deconstruction of the established research field called ‘The Psychology of Gender', it is argued that psychology in fact does gender and that instead there is a need to study ‘The Gender of Psychology'.
