Call for Expression of Interest: Workshop 3: Europe and Africa: Intra- and Inter-regional academic mobility. Ghana, 3-4 May 2010

From 3-4 May 2010, the third workshop in the Erasmus Mundus project Access to Success: Fostering Trust and Exchange between Europe and Africa will be organised in Accra, Ghana. The Access to Success project aims at raising awareness on higher education access and retention issues in Africa and Europe, and to explore how they can be enhanced through measures driven by higher education institutions in their specific socio-economic environments, and through measures and support of governments and donor agencies. By doing so, it also intends to contribute to a wider discussion on inter-institutional mobility and cooperation between Europe and Africa, in particular with regards to student and staff mobility schemes and capacity building partnerships.

The workshop Europe and Africa: Intra- and Inter-regional academic mobility will explore the important theme of both inter-regional mobility between Europe and Africa and intra-regional mobility as it has evolved within Europe and now within Africa. Topics addressed will be:

- Effective schemes for mobility between Africa and Europe: students, scholars and researchers
- Brain drain versus brain circulation and implications for university capacity development in Africa
- Lessons learned from the Bologna process and implications for mobility in Europe
- New objectives and opportunities to enhance mobility within Africa
- European Union and African Union student and staff mobility programmes
More information on the project and the workshops is available on the project website.

The workshop has a limited participation and we may not be able to accommodate all those who express interest. If you wish to attend, please fill out the attached Expression of interest form, and send it to Ellen.Mauritzen@eua.be by 17 March 2010. Please note that participants are encouraged to finance their own travel and hotel, though there will be some travel grants available upon request.
