Prof Flemming Konradsen:
ROUNDTABLE SESSION: Strengthening systems for research for health: How can we enhance local ownership and local priority setting in the South?
Flemming Konradsen is a professor of International Environmental Health at the University of Copenhagen, Denmark, and Director of the Copenhagen School of Global Health. Dr Konradsen is chairperson for the Platform on Human Health, which forms a part of Universities Denmark's initiative 'Building Stronger Universities in Developing Countries'.
Prof Konradsen has sixteen years of experience in the field of international and global health focusing on research, research capacity building programs, curricular development and teaching in South Asia, East Africa and Europe. Research focuses on environmental health including areas such as: water supply and sanitation; hygiene promotion; epidemiology and prevention of acute pesticide poisoning; control of vector borne diseases and the linkages between agriculture development and human health.
Prof Konradsen has worked for international research organisations, universities, development NGOs and national research organizations. Research project management has been an important part of Prof Konradsen's roles since employed in 1993 by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) based in Sri Lanka. This has been further developed at the University of Copenhagen as Head, Section of International Health, Institute of Public Health; Deputy Head, Department of International Health, Immunology and Microbiology. From 2006 to 2009, he was Director of the Masters of International Health Program, University of Copenhagen.
