Dr. Amar-Singh HSS:
ROUNDTABLE SESSION: Strengthening systems for research for health: How can we enhance local ownership and local priority setting in the South?
Amar is a Senior Consultant Community Paediatrician & Head of the Paediatric Department at Ipoh General Hospital RPB. He is responsible for Paediatric services in Perak, a region in Malaysia of 2.6 million with 15 government hospitals. He also heads the Clinical Research Center at Perak which serves to promote and support all research activities in the region. He works extensively with the Ministry of Health Malaysia in programme development. He has helped to revise the national immunisation schedule, mortality systems, introduce screening programmes, enlarge community services for children, injury prevention programmes, etc. He has worked actively in meeting MDG 4 goals. He is particularly interested in working with marginalised groups including aboriginal children, child abuse, children with disability, setting up NGOs and working to improve child rights. He is active in research and research training and particularly interested in community interventional trials. Amar is also active in postgraduate paediatric training/education and spiritual direction/counseling.
