ROUNDTABLE:
STRENGTHENING SYSTEMS FOR RESEARCH FOR HEALTH: HOW CAN WE ENHANCE LOCAL OWNERSHIP AND LOCAL PRIORITY SETTING IN THE SOUTH?
- Time: Friday 29 April 2011 at 13.30-16.00
- Venue: Alexandersalen, University of Copenhagen, Bispetorvet 1-3, Copenhagen
In this session chaired by Professor Carel Ijsselmuiden, Director, Council on Health Research for Development (COHRED), global health experts will discuss, which opportunities and challenges countries face in strengthening research systems and priorities. The participants in the panel include eminent global health researchers, research managers and donors. The aim of the session is to bring out a clearer picture of what low-income countries need in terms of support to define and manage research that meets their needs.
TOPICS TO BE DISCUSSED:
- How can international programmes and global health initiatives better support partners in focusing on the most relevant research, in setting national priorities and in providing the right kind of training to upcoming generations of researchers and users of research results?
- Which steps do we need to take to ensure better knowledge management, training and sharing of knowledge - including data - among different stakeholders in global health in a situation of scarce human resources?
- How can low-income countries benefit from the lessons learnt from the high-income countries in building their research and education systems?
- Can donors improve the alignment and harmonisation of funding for research for health programs, in the light of the Paris and the Accra Declarations?
There will be time for questions and comments in the end of the discussion. The session is open to all but registration is required.
