Africa’s resources – Lions on the move
Africa has changed dramatically in recent years and the changes are gaining further momentum. Growth rates have been high, trade patterns are changing, foreign direct invest-ments are now higher than development aid, half the population is under the age of 24, the speed of urbanization is rapid and a more self-conscious continent is emerging. A major factor in the economic development has been the increasing competition for natural resources. For Africa and its partners it is a time of opportunity, but also of significant challenges and risks
Under the heading Africa's resources - Lions on the move Danida Development Days will explore the myths and realities of Africa's transformation. Starting from current trends in Africa's development we will zoom in on the role of natural resources. Are they a curse or an opportunity? Who are the players and who are benefitting?
Major themes at the conference will be:
-
Governance of natural resources
-
Natural resources as drivers for growth and the role of the private sector
-
New challenges for development cooperation
In partnership with leading international scholars, development practitioners, policy makers, the private sector, and African partners, we invite you to explore the myths and realities of the changes sweeping through Africa. We invite you to join the debate, challenge common views, and present novel ideas on May 2nd - 3rd in Copenhagen.
Danida Development Days are designed as an innovative forum for inspiration, shared learning and engaging dialogue. In addition to three key note presentations, more than a dozen small group sessions will allow you to engage, and debate, directly with other experts and practi-tioners.
The main element of the programme can be downloaded from the Danida Development Days website. You can also register online via the website. Registration deadline is April 15th.
More information - including articles, working papers, interviews and videos - will be posted on the website starting April 1st.
