11th International Women Health meeting
The 11th International Women Health Meeting (IWHM) intends to defend womens health from a human rights perspective, including but not limited to their sexual and reproductive rights. For the past 30 years the IWHMs have formed a platform where feminist analysts, health practitioners, community agents, researchers, activists and authorities exchange, inform and question the policies and practices concerning women's health. The meeting mobilizes a wide array of women's groups, networks, organizations and individuals to track women's rights to health in changing contexts. By increasing awareness on resources and strategies women use in addressing politics and policies impacting their rights and their health, IWHM's have promoted new approaches to conceptualizing women's health.
In 2011, the IWHM will meet in Brussels to focus on health as a fundamental human right. The 11th IWHM will provide a space to further the women's movement civilian monitoring work of high-level pledges at international conferences. It will allow young women, health practitioners, minority groups and smaller networks to reclaim the women's health and human rights agendas, as to plan coordinated approaches and joint responses. The meeting lies at the intersection of academic research, community based work and self help practices; of national, regional and international advocacy and lobby work; of media, educational and artistic communication channels with which women are improving health practices, policies and knowledge.
Further information about the thematic concentrations, the event's organization and registration modalities are available on the 11th IWHM website.
