Each year more than 500.000 women die due to complications during pregnancy or child birth. 99 % of them live in developing countries. In many of these countries, there has been no improvement in maternal health.
But there is hope - we can do it, declares this year's Mother's Day Seminar. Maternal mortality has been reduced in many low-income countries during the second half of the 20th century, in some cases even by 90%.
Denmark's Minister for Development and Cooperation, Søren Pind will discuss Denmark's role in reaching the United Nations Millennium Development Goal 5 - to reduce maternal mortality by 2015. Leading health professionals will present successes and challenges from the field.
Mother's Day Seminar is an open event. All are welcome. The seminar is organised jointly by:
- UNFPA - United Nations Population Fund
-
Enreca Health - Danish Research Network for International Health
