Non-communicable diseases

Despite gaining considerable new knowledge on the development of diabetes and cardio vascular diseases, there are still many unanswered questions when it comes to the development and prevention of the diseases that need to be addressed.   Until recently, diabestes and cardio vascular diseases were thought to be a problem largely limited to the industrial societies. However, several scientific studies over the past decade have shown that all societies and ethnic groups are affected by non-communicable diseases with the prevalence of DM type 2 as the marker of life style changes. The rising prevalence of diabetes, type 1 or type 2, is a burden on already exhausted health systems in developing countries, and reduced work capacity of patients is a burden on the economy ranging from the national to the personal level.
